How Much Wine Do You Need?
The right amount of wine for your wedding depends on several factors—your guest count, the type of reception, and whether your crowd enjoys a good pour! It’s always better to have a little extra than to run out mid-toast.
A standard 750ml bottle holds about five 5oz servings of wine, while sparkling wines poured into flutes will yield about six 4oz servings per bottle (since foam takes up extra space). Here’s a quick guide to bottle sizes and servings:
- 750ml standard bottle = 5 glasses
- 375ml bottle = 2.5 glasses
Estimating Your Wedding Wine Needs
Follow this simple formula to determine how much wine to make:
- Count your drinking guests.
- Multiply that number by four (to allow for up to four servings per guest).
- Divide by five (since a 750ml bottle holds five glasses).
- Divide the total bottles by 30 (since a single wine kit makes 30 bottles).
Example Calculation:
100 guests drinking wine
100 × 4 drinks = 400 servings needed
400 ÷ 5 glasses per 750ml bottle = 80 bottles required
80 ÷ 30 bottles per batch = ~3 batches of wine
This means you might choose one batch of red, one of white, and one of rosé or sparkling wine to offer variety!
